Good But… For the money this is a good little air pump. Although I do have to say that after around the 4 month mark like everyone else giving a review here it got very noisy.Don’t worry there is a fix! Unscrew the 4 Philips head screws under the unit and separate the bottom and the top. You will find a stack of “L” shaped magnets. Move the stack a bit to the right and tighten the nut that holds the “L” shaped magnets in place. Put it back together and ta-da no more noise! The Problem is that the little arm that holds the square shaped magnet is hitting the “L” shaped magnets with every pump. All you have to do is give it some space so it doesn’t hit the other stack of magnets. The nut might not have be tight enough when they built it or it rattled loose during normal use allowing the stack of magnets to slip a bit.All in all this is a pretty good pump. Just wish Tetra would pay…

Whisper 20 & 40 Fantastic! Skip the 10. Don’t buy the Whisper 10!!! The 40 works great and is slightly more money than the 20 which also works — you can adjust airflow with the little valve that comes with the pump. I have five tanks which I have had for over 8 years – all are using whisper pumps. When I use air filters I use a little more pump than is specified for the equivalent tank size. I have bought two 10’s, two 20’s and five 40 whisper pumps. I have 5,10, 20 and 30 gallon tanks. I am now using a 20 for my 10 and 40’s for my 20 and 30 gal tanks. The 10 was not powerful enough to generate enough current to filter the water in either my 5 or 10 gallon tanks, making it basically worthless. One of the 40’s was noisy but I was able to open the pump (unscrew the bottom) and tighten the nut clamping the stack of metal plates near the power chord, this stopped the rattling that was making the noise. I have had pretty good luck with the Whisper pumps and they are quieter than other brands at the same price point.
